Union Representation

Siegel LeWitter Malkani is proud to support justice for employees and their families through its representation of labor organizations. We believe that the right of employees to organize among themselves and fight for fair treatment from their employers is an important civil right, and that the gains unions achieve often redound not only to their benefit but to all working people. Many rights which we take for granted today, such as unemployment insurance, the eight hour day and workplace safety and health protection, started out as union demands.

We aim to work with unions which are democratic and vigorous in their representation of their members. We are proud to be the founding counsel for the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), and we are equally happy to represent numerous union bodies affiliated with such unions as the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW). We represent healthcare workers, automobile mechanics, engineers, postal workers, university maintenance workers, teaching assistants at the University of California and many others.

In our work for labor organizations, we represent unions and their members in a broad array of circumstances including contractual arbitrations, administrative proceedings before such bodies as the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), contract negotiations and litigation in state and federal courts.
